Miss Richardson's Kindergarten ABC book

The kids came up with things around the school that started with each letter of the alphabet. They got to take pictures with the itouch and then talk into the computer to narrate the story.
This turned into a very fun project, the kids did a great job!

Gone fishin’

It was a beautiful day for fishing! The sun was out and the temperature was perfect! The kids really enjoyed learning about the different plants that grow in lakes and ponds. They also got to see tadpoles, turtles, frogs, toads, and crawfish! frogs and toads

After we saw some of the small animals that live in the water, the kids got to see many different kinds of fish.  Some looked more friendly than others SmileAll the kids got the chance to touch the fish if they wanted to and they all did a great job of answering questions about the fish.

Mr. M and His Munching Mouth

Today we met Mr. M! He is the first letter in our Letter People reading program. The kids loved meeting Mr. M the puppet.  He taught us that he makes the “mmmmm” sound, he likes to much from morning to midnight and he even taught us how to write his letter!

This week we will be focusing on the letter m. We will also be starting our handwriting curriculum. Today we practice horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. Tomorrow we will start practicing the letter F and E. Please work with your child at night and practice letter writing. It will help very much!

Since it was so nice outside today we spent the last half of our math time outside practicing writing our numbers with chalk! The kids have almost got every number down. Practicing numbers with your child would also be a great help!

Our focus this week is “All About Me.” We will be doing many fun activities that focus on ourselves and what is important about each of us.

Remember that fishing day is THIS WEDNESDAY from 1:45-3:00. Hopefully the weather is nice and sunny!

Apples! Apples! Apples!

Last week we finished up our apple unit by doing an apple investigation (weighing, measuring, classifying and sorting our apples) and then cutting up our apples and making applesauce! Our room smelled amazing Thursday when we cooked the apples all day.  The kids enjoyed eating their applesauce at the end of the day while we made a class chart of our favorite way to eat apples.  The kids could choose from a normal apple, applesauce or apple pie. Most of the votes went to apple pie!

During math on Friday we sorted red, green and yellow apples. The kids knew exactly what sorting meant and did a great job with this activity!

The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree

For the past two days we have been talking about how the apples grow on the trees and what the trees look like during the different seasons. Today we read the perfect story, The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree, to help us recognize what attributes a tree has during each season.  The kids got into groups and their job was to create a tree that represented their season. You guys, I was SO IMPRESSED! These turned out SO GOOD and I did not do a thing. The kids worked together and made these trees come alive! Before we went home today each group got up in front of the class and shared their tree and what made it special. The posters are hanging outside our classroom—check them out!

Today we also got a visit from Mrs. Thompson, the guidance counselor.  She talked to the kids about feelings and ways to ignore people when they are bothering us.  We can use the “D-Bug” approach to ignore, cool off, and talk to the teacher when something is bother us. The kids love Mrs. Thompson!!

Homecoming Success

Congratulations to the Indians for their big homecoming win over Sheldon last night!! It sure has been a fun year for them and I can think of a few boys in our class who can’t wait until it is their turn to be on that field Smile
We had a fun day Friday celebrating Homecoming.  We started the morning off with a pep rally put on by the high school.  All of the athletes came and helped us get excited by talking about their teams and leading us in a cheer.  The middle school band played our school fight song and the kids knew the words better than I did! When we came back to the room they were all singing the song. I was told that Mrs. Robinson (the music teacher) taught them the words in music that week.  That made me feel a LITTLE bit better for not knowing the words.  Smile

During writing time we used yarn to lace up our paper footballs and then the kids decorated them.  Most of them all wrote the words, “Go Indians!” on their football.  AWESOME!
We ended the day by watching the parade! The kids loved seeing the “princesses” riding in the cars and the teams go by on the fire trucks. They also loved getting thrown candy.
Waiting for the parade!
cute
It was definitely a fun Friday and everyone did a great job celebrating spirit week.
